The journey of language

While watching Dancing with the Stars one constant kept saying he wasn’t a dancer. Therefore, I feel it’s okay if I make the statement again; I’m not an English major.  Today I’m questing why I’m taking a class that’s not required for my major (Integrated studies/ History/American Studies).   However, I do believe there are no accidents in life. This leads me to some deep reflection of what I need to experience through taking this course. From a historical prospective we are learning about theorists and theories of critical thought.    It seems there’s jargon associated with each field of study and half the battle is learning that language.  Keeping this in mind, putting together a lexicon will help me organize new terms and define them.

Looking back to why I signed up for this class it was due to being frustrated over a law and literature class I took one summer.  The texts we were required to read held a multiple of terms I was unfamiliar with.  Over the weekend I pulled out my books and started reading to see if the new terms I am learning were in these texts. To my surprise, I understood what I was reading. Even though, at times I’m completely confused this journey will open my eyes to things I need to see.
